Honour Code by Individual Professional

I, the undersigned, acknowledge that corruption has had a devastating impact on the social and economic development of Nigeria.

I recognise the need to restore integrity to every facet of human life, especially in all processes related to the Development of Infrastructure in Nigeria.

I share in the growing consensus that action is needed to strengthen transparency, accountability, and civility, in business, public life and the rest of civil society.

I therefore pledge to support and implement all legislation and national policies geared towards these objectives such as the National Ethics and Integrity Policy, and to participate, along with a coalition of Nigerians across the engineering profession, civil society, business, actors in processes around the development of infrastructure and all other members of the general public who are stakeholders in national infrastructure development that work efficiently, effectively and equitably.

I welcome the action taken by these two engineering groups, the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) and the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Victoria Island Branch (NSE-VI), supported by Integrity Organisation, to strengthen individuals, institutions and processes that create and administer infrastructure to operate with transparency, integrity and efficiency and to exemplify across the board their obligation to serve the public. I seek to be a member of the movement for honourable practice of engineering, a body that reflects the diversity of the Nigerian nation and the nuanced character of stakeholder interests.

In this context, I, the undersigned, through my association with the movement:

  - Will support other stakeholders to establish standards for engineering firms involved in Nigeria’s infrastructural Development using various tools and research
  - Will support the movement to monitor uptake and adoption of standards amongst actors in Nigeria’s infrastructural Development
  - Will support the creation of tools, research and processes with which to advocate behavioural change amongst actors in Nigeria’s infrastructural development
  - Will support intervention in matters that could affect professional excellence or credibility of institutions and processes around Nigeria’s infrastructural development

In my actions, and whilst a member of this movement, I, the undersigned:

  - Will exemplify the change in conduct I am joining with others to seek
  - Will act honourably and in good faith and not contrary to the public interest
  - Will not use my knowledge, and/or position and/or resources and/or relationships to facilitate an improper purpose (such as money laundering, corruption, bribery, fraud, influence peddling and the like) or engage in otherwise inappropriate behaviour
  - Will avoid acts or omissions that place me at a conflict with the public interest or the interests of this movement whose membership I this day seek
